Woodio Ltd, a Metsä Spring portfolio company, is prize recipient in one of Finland’s most prominent design competitions. Hence, the Fennia Prize awards are given to companies and organisations that use design strategically in their business operations. The main prize, the Fennia Prize Grand Prix, was awarded to Dottir Attorneys Ltd.

Woodio won the Fennia Prize Winner award for its wood composite washbasins. Woodio was established in 2016 with the aim to develop and commercialise a new biomaterial technology based on small wood chips as the main raw material. The speciality of Woodio is a 100% waterproof and mouldable material. Metsä Spring invested in Woodio in the summer of 2019.

“In the course of time, Fennia Prize has become one of Finland’s most prominent design competitions and the only one where companies in particular are awarded for using design in a broad sense,” says Design Forum Finland’s CEO Petteri Kolinen.

In addition to the Fennia Prize Winner award, Woodio also received another nomination in the same competition, i.e. the Finnish Patent and Registration Office honoured Woodio with an IPR Excellence prize for the patents and trademark rights of its wood composite washbasins. Metsä Spring congratulates the whole Woodio team and wishes them success in the years to come.
